Anyone for tea?

Who doesn’t love an afternoon tea party? I couldn’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon, lazing outside in the afternoon sun chatting with the girls while sipping on a cup of tea and devouring a soft, sugary butter cream topped cupcake or a fluffy scone smothered with lashings of double cream and sweet strawberry jam.

When approached by one of our dear clients Lea to organise a baby shower, we knew the setting had to be a lazy afternoon tea. Lea’s brief was simple: “I would like something pretty and something relaxed…… AND I would like you to incorporate one of our family heirlooms – a cot that has been in the family for 45 years”

So using the family cot as inspiration, we created a shabby chic theme afternoon tea party. We used a pretty floral/ gingham print shabby chic fabric to create ruffled flowers, which featured on various elements throughout the party.

The Invitation

We created a dessert spread using the cot as a base for the dessert table.

The dessert table featured a butter cream cake topped with fresh flowers, vanilla cupcakes, pink coconut ice and strawberry cheesecakes.

We pulled out all the fine china

And dug around for pretty glass coloured platters and antique silver cake stands, which we filled with all the childhood biscuit favourites (iced vovos, jam tarts) as well as scones and jams

One long table was adorned with crystal glasses filled with pretty pink and lilac flowers.

The guests each received a shabby chic lolly jar

We had a great time putting it all together. The theme would work beautifully for a baby shower, little girl’s birthday party or for an excuse to get the girls together for afternoon tea.
